Information for parents/carers January 2021
Our aim is to make home learning accessible, flexible, and enriching. Pupils who are working from home will have the opportunity to access the same lessons as those pupils in school thereby allowing them to continue to make good progress. This will also ensure lessons are sequenced for those pupils who are in school for some of the time and at home for others.
Children working at home will need to login to their Google Classroom account. There will be a folder of daily lessons and activities which they are expected to complete and which include maths, reading, writing and spelling. Lots of the lessons are supported by video clips from White Rose Maths, Oak National Academy or Oxford Owl. There will also be videos created by teachers to support pupils' learning. Where a specific need is identified, some pupils may take part in small group meetings remotely with a teacher or TA. This type of learning may also form part of a child's EHCP provision.
Once any activities are completed, work can be uploaded so that the teacher can assess the work and use this to plan for further learning. These lessons will be available for a week and then removed.
There is also an enrichment folder on Google Classrooms which contains weekly science lessons as well as other projects including art., PE, DT, RE and fun stuff etc. These activities are there for you to choose from to suit your child’s interests or as a motivator to complete the daily lessons. Any work completed from these activities can be uploaded and will be checked by the teacher on a weekly basis. Teachers will be available every afternoon to provide home learning support. They can be contacted via Google Classrooms. A well-being folder will have activities and suggestions on how to support your child's emotional and mental health during these challenging times.
We will make every endeavour to ensure every child can access the learning on line via Google Classrooms in the first instance. This form of remote education allows teachers to feedback daily on learning and all pupils can accesses the same teaching. We are able to provide work packs on an individual basis and/or where this is part of the provision in an EHCP.
We’re working with the DfE and mobile companies - Virgin Mobile, EE, Sky Mobile, SMARTY, Tesco Mobile, Three and Virgin Mobile - to temporarily increase data allowances on certain networks. This is so children can continue their remote education without incurring extra data charges. If a child does not have their own phone, we can increase data on a family member’s phone, so long as they’re in the same household. Click the link below to apply:
